Oklahoma Posting Laws: How to Post Land
We could not verify Oklahoma's current statute text. We could not read the current text of 21 O.S. 1835 on the state site, so treat this guide as a starting point and read the statute yourself. What we have points to plain, conspicuous signs and a special rule for farms.
We could not confirm the current official text of Oklahoma's posting law. Read the statute before you post your land.
What we could and could not confirm
We could not read the current text of 21 O.S. 1835. The wording we have comes from bill drafts that quote existing law, so our confidence is medium. Those drafts show no owner-name requirement, and no letter height or sign size was confirmed. Please read the statute through the link in the facts table before you order.
Spacing and placement
The text quoted in those bill drafts says signs are placed 'conspicuously and at all places where entry to the property is reasonably expected'. No spacing number appears in the statute text we read. In plain terms: put a sign at every gate, lane and trail head, and anywhere a vehicle could turn in.
Farm, ranch and forest land
Under 21 O.S. 1835.2, on private land primarily devoted to farming, ranching or forestry, entering without permission is trespass, and no posting is required. Other land must be lived on or posted for criminal trespass charges, according to a game warden article. Those kinds of land are treated differently, so work out which yours is.
Paint and hunting
We found no purple paint provision enacted in Oklahoma. Several bills were introduced, and one in 2005 was vetoed, but this is unverified. Hunting and fishing without consent are covered by 29 O.S. 5-202 and 6-304. Use printed signs and keep dated photos.
