Exit Only Signs
Shopping centers, apartment complexes, schools and drive-thru restaurants post exit only signs where cars must leave by one route, such as a single gate or the far end of a drive-thru. The sign guides traffic flow out of the lot, so drivers see the arrow before they reach the street.

Where exit only signs are used
Traffic that backs up at a shared gate causes the trouble this sign solves, because cars leaving one lot cut across cars entering the next. A single exit lane with an exit only sign keeps departing drivers in one line, such as the back gate of a farm supply store's lot, the one-lane exit from a veterinary clinic's shared drive or the gate at the rear of a warehouse yard. Without a clear sign, a driver has to guess which gap to take.
Choosing the size and where to hang it
Where the exit lane meets the gate, mount it on a post so a leaving driver sees it first. The 12 x 12 in square suits a gate only one car wide, and a 24 x 18 in or 36 x 24 in sign lets the arrow read from farther back down a long lane. Use aluminum outdoors, reflective aluminum for an exit used after dark, and plastic for a covered garage exit. Aluminum with corner holes takes screws, and plastic hangs from its brass grommets.
Questions about exit only signs
Is an exit only sign the same as a fire exit sign?
No. An exit only sign directs traffic flow in a lot or drive, and it is not a fire or emergency exit sign. Emergency exit signs follow fire code and are often lit, so keep those for building exits and use this sign for vehicles.
White on red or black on white?
White on red has a strong warning look that reads from a distance across a lot. Black on white is quieter, which suits a school lot or business park where a red sign would look too loud. The live preview shows either color before you order.
Which arrow and how do I mount it?
Choose right, left or up to match the direction cars must take when they leave. Set the sign at the exit lane, facing the drivers who are leaving, at a height a driver can read. Aluminum can have 1/4 in holes for screws, and plastic has brass grommets for zip ties.
Will an exit only sign stop a wrong-way driver?
A sign gives direction, but it cannot physically stop a driver who goes the wrong way. If wrong-way traffic is a real problem, pair the sign with a curb, a gate or a painted arrow on the pavement, and check your state and local rules before adding any traffic control on private property.
How soon will the exit only signs ship?
Each order ships within 1 to 2 business days. Shipping is $9.99, but orders of $99 or more ship free, so two or three signs for a few gates may reach that amount.
