Fall Hazard Signs

Use this sign at roof edges, open hatches, mezzanines, scaffolds and loading platforms where someone could step off the edge. It warns workers and visitors before they reach the drop, so place it where a walkway or ladder meets the open edge.

Questions about fall hazard signs

Danger or warning?

DANGER (red) is for a hazard that will cause death or serious injury, such as an open shaft or an unguarded roof edge. WARNING (orange) is for a hazard that could cause death or serious injury. Your fall protection plan sets the level for your site, so check it with your safety officer.

Where should the sign go?

Put it at the approach to the edge or hatch, on the wall or post a worker sees before stepping through. Keep it clear of ladders and equipment, and use a sign at each access point rather than only one at the far side of the area.

Which material should I pick?

Holes at the top corners, 1/4 in, let you bolt a rigid .040 aluminum sign to a rail or post. For a sign that moves with a job, plastic is the lighter option, a .020 in styrene with brass grommets. A sign alone may not be enough, so check your fall plan.
