No Cell Phones Signs

Post this sign at the door or threshold where phones must be put away, such as a production floor, a secure lab or a restricted office. Plants, hospitals, schools and government offices use it at the line where a phone could distract a worker or record sensitive areas.

Where no cell phones signs are used

Dental X-ray rooms, recording studio control rooms, courthouse back offices and museum coat checks all have one doorway where a phone has to stay in a pocket or a bag. A facility manager may put this sign on a glass door or a steel frame so a visitor reads the rule before walking in, not after a photo is taken. A bank vault corridor or a photo lab might use one at the same kind of threshold. The problem it solves is the quick snapshot that ends up somewhere it should never be.

Choosing the size and where to hang it

Position it on the wall beside the door or on the door itself, at about eye level, where a person can read it while still holding a phone. The 24 by 18 in size reads well on a steel or glass door, and 36 by 24 in suits a corridor wall seen from farther back. Choose aluminum for a door that gets handled a lot or sees cleaning. Plastic is light and suits a dry interior wall, and zip ties through its grommets hold it steady.

Questions about no cell phones signs

Where should a no cell phones sign go?

Mount it at the line itself, on the wall or door frame just before the phone-free zone, so people read it before they cross. Use a second sign at any other entrance into the same area, since people often enter from a side door.

Caution or notice for a phone rule?

Pick caution (yellow) where distraction near moving equipment could cause a minor or moderate injury. Notice (blue) is for a rule with no injury risk, such as a meeting room or a records office.

Can I add a locker note?

You can type a short note such as LOCKERS OUTSIDE, if that applies at your site, so staff know where to store phones. Check the live preview for line length, and keep the note to a few words so the two main lines stay large.

Will a sign keep phones out of a room by itself?

Usually not on its own. The sign states the rule, and a locker, basket or shelf just outside the door makes the rule easy to follow. Many sites place the storage spot before the door so people leave phones in a known place. The sign does useful work as one part of your own rules.

Is it safe to mount this on a glass door?

The safest place is the frame beside the glass, not the glass itself. Aluminum holds to a frame with screws through the holes, and plastic uses zip ties through the grommets. Check the live preview first, then mount the sign where the printed words sit at a height people can read easily.
