Where custom posted signs are used

A timber owner's back fence line, a river bank that anglers reach from the road, a corn field corner where a trail crosses the boundary, or a rural lot where a rented pasture meets a county road all need a boundary sign at a spot people can read from a walk or a truck. A landowner may nail one to a fence post at each corner, and a family might place one where a new trail leaves the road. It puts the boundary in front of a person before they cross it.

Choosing the size and where to hang it

Post it on a fence line, tree or metal post at about eye level, facing the approach, so a walker sees it before crossing. The 12 by 18 in size reads well on a trail post, and 12 by 12 in suits a short fence run or a tree. Aluminum is the right choice outdoors, since it is rust-free and holds up to rain and sun. Plastic is light and suits a shed wall. Use corner holes or zip ties, and check your state and local rules for posting.

    Questions about custom posted signs

Do posted signs need my name on them?

It depends on the state. Some posting laws ask for the owner's or lessee's name, others only for the words. Pick your state in the builder to see the rule, or read your state's posting guide.

How many posted signs do I need?

Enter your boundary length and the spacing your state allows in the sign calculator, and it counts the signs for you, including the extra one at the end of the line.

What are the signs made of?

Rust-free .040 aluminum, printed in full colour with UV ink and a gloss coat, with rounded corners.

Do I need a sign on every side of the property?

Posting rules differ by state, so check your state and local rules for how often and where land must be marked. Many owners put signs at gates, road crossings and corners where a boundary turns. Place one wherever a person would enter the land, and keep each sign within view of the next one.

Should I put my address or phone on it?

The owner name and address or phone lines are optional. Some owners add a phone number so a neighbor can call before entering, and others keep the sign plain. Type only what you want public, then check the preview to confirm the lines print in full.
