Questions about emergency shut off signs
Where should a shut off sign be placed?
Mount it on the wall or pipe near the valve it names, at a height where a person can read it without moving equipment. If the valve sits inside a closet, put one on the closet door as well. Your building inspector or utility provider can say which valves must be labeled.
Notice or Danger for a valve sign?
Red Danger marks a hazard that will cause death or serious injury, while blue Notice carries information with no hazard attached. Ask your building engineer which header fits each valve, since a gas valve and a water valve may need different headers on your site.
Can I add the valve name or tag number?
Yes. A valve name, tag number or room name can go in the optional line. Read the finished sign in the preview before you order, and fix any typo while the builder is still open.
