Fire Alarm Control Panel Signs

Fire alarm contractors and building owners put this sign on the door of a room that holds the fire alarm control panel, the unit that runs the building's alarm system. The fire code asks that rooms with fire protection controls be identified for the fire department, and it sets no wording or size for the sign.

Where fire alarm control panel signs are used

A fire alarm panel can sit in a room that people walk past every day, and the sign tells the next crew which door to open. A hospital facilities team puts one on the closet door at the end of a corridor. An apartment owner adds one to the room beside the stairwell where the panel sits. A plant maintenance room behind the machine shop gets one for a panel that serves the whole factory. A panel tucked into a supply closet is easy to miss, so the sign points the crew to it.

Choosing the size and where to hang it

Put the sign on the outside of the room door, where a person can read it without stepping into the doorway. Use 12 x 12 in or 18 x 12 in for a short sign such as FACP, and 24 x 18 in when the room name is needed too. Plastic suits an indoor door. Aluminum or reflective aluminum suits a door that faces the outdoors or a parking lot. Fasten with screws through the corner holes, or a cable tie through a plastic grommet.

Questions about fire alarm control panel signs

Should the sign say FACP or FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL?

Both wordings are offered. FACP is short and fits a small sign, while FIRE ALARM CONTROL PANEL spells the words out for a firefighter who does not know the abbreviation. Choose the one your fire marshal uses, and check the live preview. The fire marshal approves the final sign for the room.

What if the panel is not in the room with the door?

Then the sign can say where the panel is. Choose the FIRE ALARM PANEL LOCATED IN design and type the room name, such as LOBBY or ROOM 104. Keep the name short so the lettering stays large enough to read at the size you pick.

Which material suits a panel room?

Plastic is light and suits a door inside the building. Aluminum or reflective aluminum suits a door that faces the outdoors or a parking lot. Reflective aluminum shows in headlights at night, so it works where the sign is seen from a driveway.

Does the sign have to be raised or braille?

Our signs are printed flat, with no raised or braille letters. If your fire marshal or building owner asks for a tactile plaque, we cannot print one, so check with them before you order a flat sign.

Can I order one sign for each panel room?

Yes. A building with several panel rooms can need a sign on each door, and each sign can name its own room in the optional line. Where the rooms are alike, keep the wording the same and change only the room name.
