No Firearms Signs

A no firearms sign at the door tells visitors that guns stay outside. What the sign must say depends on the state: pick yours below to see its rule and the statute, and choose the matching wording where the law sets one.

    Helpful guides

Where no firearms signs are used

Shop owners put one on the front door glass so customers see it before they walk in, and on the side door that staff use. Offices post it in the lobby next to the visitor sign-in desk, and landlords hang it at the entrance to a leasing office or a shared clubhouse. Event venues, clinics and day care centers use one at each public door, and churches often add one at the main entrance. Because each state treats these signs differently, the builder's state box explains the rule before you order.

Choosing the size and where to hang it

At every public entrance, mount the sign at eye level beside or on the door, where people read it before they open it. A 12 x 18 in sign suits a glass door or the wall next to it; 18 x 24 in reads from a parking lot. Use aluminum outside and plastic on a window inside. Where a state sets a height above the ground or a distance from the door, the state box above says so. Clear outdoor tape or screws through the corner holes both work.

    Questions about no firearms signs

Does a no firearms sign have legal force?

It depends on the state. In some, carrying past a posted sign can itself be an offense; in many others the sign is notice, and trespass law applies when someone refuses to leave. Texas uses its own 30.05, 30.06 and 30.07 signs. Pick your state above for its rule and the statute.

Which states set the wording or size?

Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi set wording that these designs follow, and Missouri and Wisconsin set a minimum size. Kansas uses a picture-only sign. Texas, South Carolina, Illinois and Minnesota use their own set forms, which the state box explains.

    Is this legal advice?

No. The state notes are plain-words summaries of the statute text with a link to it. Laws change, and courts changed carry rules in several states in 2024 to 2026, so read the current law or ask a lawyer before you rely on a sign.

Can I put the sign on a glass door?

Yes. Order it without holes and mount it with clear outdoor tape, facing out, at eye level. Plastic is lighter for glass. If the door is mostly glass, a 12 x 18 in sign leaves room to see through, and the symbol reads clearly from the walkway.

Do I need one sign for every door?

Many state rules talk about each entrance or every public entrance, so plan on one sign per door people use to come in. The state box above names the placement rule where your state has one. Quantity savings start at 5 signs (10% off) and 10 signs (15% off).
