Where texas 30.06 signs are used
Texas restaurants, clinics, offices and stores post a 30.06 sign when they do not want license holders to carry a concealed handgun inside. It goes on the front door or the wall beside it, so a customer reads it before walking in, and often a second one sits at a side or staff entrance. Landlords put one at a leasing office, and private event spaces hang one at the main doors on event days. Most businesses that post it also post the 30.07 sign for open carry.
Choosing the size and where to hang it
The Penal Code asks for a sign displayed in a conspicuous manner, clearly visible to the public, so mount it at eye level where every visitor walks past. The 24 x 36 in upright size fits beside a single door; the 36 x 24 in wide size suits the wall over a double entry or a storefront window frame. Aluminum with corner holes handles outdoor walls and posts. Plastic is lighter for an inside wall or glass.
Questions about texas 30.06 signs
What is the difference between a 30.06 and a 30.07 sign?
A 30.06 sign covers license holders carrying a concealed handgun; a 30.07 sign covers license holders carrying a handgun openly. A business that wants neither posts both. Neither one reaches people who carry without a license: Texas uses Penal Code 30.05 for that.
Where does the Spanish wording come from?
The statute requires the notice in English and in Spanish but gives no Spanish text. We print the Spanish version published by the Texas Department of Public Safety, word for word, so the sign does not depend on our own translation.
Why are the signs so big?
Texas asks for block letters at least 1 inch tall, and the notice is long in two languages. At 24 x 36 in every line prints a little over 1 inch, which the builder shows as you look. Smaller sizes cannot hold the full text at that height.
Does a 30.06 sign apply to people without a license?
No. Section 30.06 covers people licensed to carry a handgun under Chapter 411 of the Government Code who carry it concealed. Texas Penal Code 30.05 is the separate notice for anyone carrying a firearm, and a plain no-guns sign has no effect under 30.06.
Can I change the wording or make the letters smaller?
No. The Penal Code asks for written language identical to its own words, in English and Spanish, in block letters at least 1 inch tall. That is why the builder has no text boxes on this sign and only offers the two sizes where every line prints over 1 inch.
