Banner Sizes: Which Size Fits Your Spot?
There is no single standard banner size. The right one depends on the spot you hang it in and how far away your readers stand. Our wide banners run from 4 x 2 ft to 8 x 4 ft, upright banners come in 2 x 4 and 3 x 6 ft, and mesh fence banners go up to 25 x 6 ft. This guide gives the full size chart with prices, a quick way to pick by reading distance, sizes for common spots, and real banners shown at their sizes.
How banner sizes are written
Sizes are written width x height. A 6 x 3 ft banner is 6 feet wide and 3 feet tall, which is 72 x 36 inches. To turn feet into inches, multiply by 12.
We make three groups. Wide banners: 4 x 2, 6 x 2, 6 x 3, 8 x 3 and 8 x 4 ft. Upright banners: 2 x 4 and 3 x 6 ft, on the pages that offer them. Long mesh fence banners: 8 x 6, 10 x 6, 20 x 6 and 25 x 6 ft, on the Mesh Fence Banners page only. The size chart below lists every size with its price and where it fits.
| Size (feet) | Size (inches) | Shape | Where it fits | Text banner | Photo, team or class banner |

| 6 x 3 ft | 72 x 36 in | Wide | Garage door, porch, short fence, tent wall, single player | $57.95 | $71.95 |
| 8 x 3 ft | 96 x 36 in | Wide | Storefront, gym wall, stage front, outfield fence | $76.95 | $95.95 |
| 8 x 4 ft | 96 x 48 in | Wide | Big wall, building front, event stage, outfield fence, team roster | $101.95 | $126.95 |
| 2 x 4 ft | 24 x 48 in | Upright, on pages that offer it | Beside a door, on a post, hallway wall | $25.95 | $31.95 |

Pick a size by how far people will stand
Distance decides more than the wall does. A sign-industry rule of thumb says about 1 inch of letter height reads easily for every 10 feet of distance. So letters 2 inches tall work at 20 feet, 3 inches at 30 feet and 5 inches at 50 feet.
Fewer words give bigger letters on any size. One line is easier to read than five. Our live preview shows the letter sizes on the banner itself, so you can try a size and look before you order.
- Up close, 10 feet or less (a table, a porch, a booth): letters about 1 inch tall are plenty, so a 4 x 2 or 6 x 2 ft banner works.
- Across a yard or a parking spot, about 30 feet: aim for letters near 3 inches.
- From a road or the far side of a field, 50 feet or more: aim for 5 inches or taller, and use fewer words.
Which size for which spot, from porch to outfield fence
Measure the spot first. Then pick a banner a little smaller than the space, so the edges and the brass grommets have room to breathe.
- Porch or railing: 4 x 2 or 6 x 2 ft. A slim banner sits along a rail without blocking the view.
- Garage door: 6 x 3 or 8 x 3 ft. Measure the width of the door and the clear area you want to use.
- Storefront or window: 6 x 3, 8 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft. Match the banner to the width of the space above the door or in the glass.
- Fence: 6 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft for a short stretch, or a long mesh banner from 8 x 6 to 25 x 6 ft for a whole run. Mesh lets wind pass through.
- Gym wall: 8 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft for a team banner or a sponsor, and 6 x 3 ft for a single player.
- Pop-up tent: 6 x 3 or 8 x 3 ft on the back or a side wall. Tents vary, so measure that side first.
- Event stage or table front: 8 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft across a stage, and 4 x 2 or 6 x 2 ft across a table.
- Outfield fence and sponsor banners: 8 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft. Choose one size for every sponsor so the row looks even.
- Door side or post: 2 x 4 or 3 x 6 ft upright.

Use thisWide or upright?
A wide banner follows the line of a fence, a rail, a stage or a wall. An upright banner fits where height is the room you have: beside a door, on a post or along a hallway. Upright sizes are 2 x 4 and 3 x 6 ft, and only some pages offer them, such as Senior Banners. A 3 x 6 ft upright and a 6 x 3 ft wide banner cover the same area and cost the same.
Vinyl or mesh, and how much a banner weighs
Solid vinyl is 13 oz and suits most spots. Vinyl mesh has small open holes that let wind pass through, which is why it fits chain link fences and outdoor rails. A text banner costs the same in mesh, and the long fence sizes come only in mesh.
Weight matters when you pick hooks or a hanging spot. A 13 oz banner weighs about 13 ounces per square yard. That puts a 4 x 2 ft banner near 0.7 lb, a 6 x 3 ft near 1.6 lb, an 8 x 3 ft near 2.2 lb and an 8 x 4 ft near 2.9 lb. Every banner has hemmed edges and brass grommets around the edge. Our guide on how to hang a banner shows what to hang them with.
What it costs and how fast it ships
Price grows with size. Text banners run from $25.95 for 4 x 2 ft to $101.95 for 8 x 4 ft. Photo, team and class banners run from $31.95 to $126.95 over the same sizes. Shipping is $9.99, free on orders of $99 or more. Banners ship in 1 to 2 business days, then ground shipping takes 2 to 5 business days. Five or more copies of the same banner save 10%, and 10 or more save 15%.
Common questions
What is the standard banner size?
There is no single standard. Wide banners from 4 x 2 ft to 8 x 4 ft cover most spots, and 6 x 3 ft is a handy first size to test on a garage door, porch or short fence. Measure your space, think about how far readers will stand, and use the size chart on this page.
How do I turn feet into inches for a banner?
Multiply feet by 12. A 4 x 2 ft banner is 48 x 24 inches, a 6 x 3 ft banner is 72 x 36 inches and an 8 x 4 ft banner is 96 x 48 inches. Sizes are written width first, then height. The chart on this page shows both feet and inches for every size.
What size banner do I need for a chain link fence?
For a short stretch, 6 x 3 ft or 8 x 4 ft works. For a long run, the Mesh Fence Banners page has 8 x 6, 10 x 6, 20 x 6 and 25 x 6 ft. Mesh has small open holes that let wind pass through, and a mesh text banner costs the same as a solid one.
How big will my letters be?
A handy rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of distance. Our live preview shows the letter sizes on the banner itself, so you can check a size before you order. Fewer words and fewer lines give you bigger letters.
What size sponsor banner fits a ball field fence?
Start with 8 x 3 or 8 x 4 ft, the longest wide sizes, which read well along a fence from the stands. Measure the fence panels first, and pick one size for every sponsor so the row looks even. Sponsor banners come in all the wide sizes.
How much does a banner weigh?
A 13 oz banner weighs about 13 ounces per square yard. A 6 x 3 ft banner is about 1.6 lb and an 8 x 4 ft banner is about 2.9 lb. Check the weight before you choose adhesive hooks, and tie off every grommet for outdoor use.
