Senior Night Banner Ideas (Poster Ideas That Work Too)
Senior night goes by fast. A player walks out with family at their side, the crowd claps, and a few minutes later it is over. A banner is the part that stays. It hangs on the fence or the gym wall for the game, then goes home to a bedroom wall. Here are ideas for what to put on one, ideas for each sport, sayings from parents and teammates, and how a team can order a matching set. Most of these ideas work for a poster, too.
One banner for each senior
The usual plan is one banner per senior, all in the same style, so the row of them looks planned. What goes on each one matters more than the style. Start with the things people can read from the stands.
Not every sport uses numbers. Cheer, band, track and swim seniors can leave the number off. Every optional line can be switched off, and the live preview shows the banner exactly as it prints.
A photo makes it personal. Upload a JPG, PNG or WEBP file; a phone photo works. The site finds the faces and frames them in your own browser, and you can drag and zoom while the face stays in place. A note tells you how sharp the photo will print. You also tick a box to say you took the photo or may print it. Studio portraits usually need the photographer's print release, so check before you upload one.
- The number. A big jersey number is the first thing a crowd spots. Our senior banners take up to 3 digits, on a badge or large behind the name.
- The name. Use the name everyone calls the player. A short name prints in bigger letters than a long one.
- The sport and the class year. SOFTBALL, CLASS OF 2027, or both on one line.
- A line from the family. A short thank-you goes on the small line, such as LOVE, MOM, DAD AND EMMA.
- The photo. A clear, close picture where the senior's face is easy to see.

For cheer, band, swim and other seniors without a jersey number. The number is switched off, so the photo and name take the room.
Use this

A 6 x 3 ft wide banner that fits above a bench or along a gym wall. White letters on royal blue are easy to read from a distance.
Use this
Football Senior in Black and Red
A tall banner for the walk-out line or a fence post. Black and red reads well from the stands, and the badge number matches the jersey the fans know.
Use this
Baseball Seniors on One Banner
One 8 x 3 ft banner for a small senior class. Numbers and names sit in a list, and the bottom line thanks the families. Fits a dugout or outfield fence.
Use this
Softball Script Style Thank You
A warm script banner that suits softball teams and booster clubs. List each senior with a number, and keep the bottom line short and friendly.
Use this
Soccer Seniors for the Sideline

Basketball Seniors With a Pun
A big-ball style banner for the gym wall, with a friendly pun at the bottom. Works for a small team where three or four seniors share the night.
Use this
Volleyball Varsity Style Roster
Varsity lettering gives a classic school look. Use it when the boosters want one banner at the net for every senior on the court.
Use this
Football Walk-Out Roster Banner
An 8 x 4 ft banner gives a long football roster the room it needs. Two helpers can hold it at the walk-out, or it hangs on the fence afterward.
Use this
Hockey Seniors in Ice Blue
Navy and light blue give a cool, clean look for a hockey lobby or entrance. List numbers and names, then thank the families on the bottom line.
Use this
Every Fall Sport on One Banner
For an athletic department or boosters honoring seniors from several teams together. The name list is first names and initials, so no jersey numbers are needed.
Use this
Plain Words, No Photo
Short on photos? A text-only banner costs less than a photo banner at the same size ($57.95 against $71.95 at 6 x 3 ft). Good for a team to hang from the bench or bleachers.
Use this
Big Banner for a Big Photo
At 8 x 4 ft the photo prints large, so it works for a senior whose sport has no team page. Teal and black make a bold, modern pair.
Use thisPoster ideas that also work as a banner
Plenty of teams make posters for senior night, and most poster ideas carry over to a banner. The ones that work well share a few habits.
Check your letters before you commit. The rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet of distance, so fans 30 feet away need letters about 3 inches tall. Our live preview shows the letter sizes on the banner itself.
A printed banner adds three things a poster board usually does not. Every senior gets the same look, so the row matches. The photo prints big instead of being glued down. And after the game the banner rolls up and goes home with the player, which makes it a keepsake as well as a decoration.
- One big thing. Let the number, the name or the photo be the star, and keep everything else small.
- Few words. Six words or fewer on the main line read from across a field.
- Two colors that contrast. Light letters on a dark color, or dark on light. Our senior and team banners come in 20 color pairs, such as navy and gold or maroon and white.
- A friendly pun on the sport. Grand Slam Senior. Nothing but Net, Nothing but Love. Last Snap, Lasting Memories.
- Then and now. This one is poster only: a baby picture next to the senior picture. Our photo banners hold one photo, so pick the one you love most.
Senior night banner ideas by sport
Every sport has its own mood on senior night. These are starting points, and each one matches a team page you can open in the builder.
- Baseball: put SENIORS in the big line and list each senior with a jersey number, like 7 Caleb B. Use the bottom line to thank the families.
- Softball: the Script style suits a warm note such as WE WILL MISS YOU, with the seniors listed by first name and initial.
- Soccer: a wide banner with the seniors listed fits the fence along the sideline, and the top line can say SENIOR NIGHT.
- Basketball: hang a photo banner for each senior on the gym wall, or one team banner listing all of them where the team runs out.
- Volleyball: a row of upright photo banners along the wall, one per senior, in the team colors.
- Football: this is a big roster, so an 8 x 4 ft team banner keeps a long list of seniors readable.
- Hockey: list the jersey numbers, pick the team colors, and put the club or rink name on the bottom line.
- Track, tennis, swim, cross country, cheer, band: these do not have their own team page. Use the Senior banner with the sport on the bottom line, or a Your words banner from Custom Vinyl Banners.
All the seniors on one banner
If the team has a handful of seniors, or the boosters want one banner for all of them, use a team page. Each team banner has a team name line, a top line, a bottom line and a list of up to 16 names. Make the big line SENIORS, put SENIOR NIGHT on the top line and a thank-you at the bottom, then list the seniors the way your team writes them, such as 12 Noah P.
The names in the list print smaller than the big line, and a bigger banner prints them bigger. If the list is long, or fans will be far away, move up to 8 x 4 ft. The live preview shows the letter size before you order. For an athletic department that wants every fall sport together, or the whole class, the Class of 2027 Banners page takes the same kind of list.
Families often ask for a copy. When you order several copies of the same team banner, 5 or more save 10% and 10 or more save 15%.
Ordering a matching set for the whole team
A set is easy to organize when you decide the design, the colors and the size once. After that each senior gets their own photo, name and number, and the row looks matched.
Pricing counts each different senior as a separate banner. The 10% and 15% savings are for copies of the same banner, so a set of different seniors is priced banner by banner. Photo banners are $71.95 at 3 x 6 ft and $31.95 at 2 x 4 ft. The wide ones run from $31.95 at 4 x 2 ft to $126.95 at 8 x 4 ft. Shipping is $9.99, free on orders of $99 or more.
If nobody has time to build them, the Design it for me option adds $35. Upload the photos and notes, and we email a mockup within 1 business day. You get 2 rounds of changes, and nothing is printed until you say yes.
- Pick one design and one size for the whole set, such as the upright Senior style at 3 x 6 ft.
- Choose the team colors once and use them on every banner.
- Ask each family for the original phone photo (not a screenshot), the number, the spelling of the name and the line they want.
- Have one parent place the order, so questions and shipping stay in one place.
- Count back from the night. Banners ship in 1 to 2 business days, then ground shipping takes 2 to 5 business days. We cannot promise an arrival date, so leave extra room.
Where senior night banners hang
A senior banner can hang in four places, and the last one is the one that lasts. Wind is the main worry outdoors, and our guide on how to hang a banner covers it step by step.
- On the fence at the field. Zip ties through the grommets hold a banner in place, and every corner should be tied.
- On the gym wall. Removable adhesive hooks rated for the weight work well; a 3 x 6 ft banner weighs about 1.6 lb.
- At the walk-out line. A wide banner held by two helpers, or a row of upright banners on a rail, frames the entrance.
- In the senior's room. Roll it up printed side out when the season ends, and never fold it hard.
Senior night sayings and wording
Common questions
What do you put on a senior night banner?
Start with the senior's name. Most banners also carry the jersey number, the sport and Class of 2027, plus one short line from the family or the team, such as We are so proud of you. A photo helps people spot the senior across the field. Every optional line can be switched off, so a plain banner with only a name and a photo works well.
What size is a good senior night banner?
For one senior, a 3 x 6 ft upright or a 6 x 3 ft wide banner suits a fence or a gym wall, and 2 x 4 ft is a smaller upright. For a team list of seniors, 8 x 3 ft or 8 x 4 ft keeps the names readable. The banner size guide has the full chart.
Can I use a photo from my phone?
Yes. Upload a JPG, PNG or WEBP file, and a phone photo works. The site finds the faces and frames them, and you can drag and zoom. A note says how sharp it will print. You tick a box to say you took the photo or may print it, and studio portraits usually need the photographer's print release.
Can every senior have the same design with their own photo?
Yes. Pick one design, one size and one color pair, then change the photo, name and number for each senior. Each different senior is priced as its own banner. The 10% and 15% savings count only copies of the same banner, which helps when families each want a copy of one team banner.
How far ahead should we order?
Banners ship in 1 to 2 business days, then ground shipping takes 2 to 5 business days. We cannot promise arrival by a date, so order well ahead of senior night. Leave a few days for families to send photos and for you to check the preview before anything is printed.
Is a banner better than a poster for senior night?
They do different jobs. A poster is quick, and the kids can draw it themselves. A banner makes sense when you want every senior in the same look, a photo printed big, or something to keep afterward. Some families do both: a poster for the walk-out and a printed banner for the fence.
