Family moments: one person, one day
Most family banners honor one person or one household. A birthday banner carries a name, an age and a friendly line, and the birthday banner ideas guide has wording for every milestone. A photo makes a family banner personal. Upload a JPG, PNG or WEBP file, and a phone photo is fine. Teams and schools: many names, one look
A team banner names the team, the season and the league or school, and it often lists the players. Each sport page has four ready styles, so a team can settle on a look in a minute. A senior night banner works the other way: one player, one number and one big photo. Schools and booster clubs use plain text banners too. A fundraiser car wash needs one by the road. A fall festival needs a parking arrow. Property banners are even simpler. FOR LEASE, OPEN HOUSE, FOR SALE and NOW LEASING each print as a big fixed headline, and you add a phone number or a time and a street. Some banners come out every year. A church can hang one for Sunday worship and swap the line for a fall festival or a food drive. Good banners share four habits, listed below. The last one needs a number. The rule of thumb is about 1 inch of letter height for every 10 feet, so a reader 30 feet away needs letters about 3 inches tall. The banner sizes guide has a full chart.
The live preview shows the banner exactly as it prints, and it shows the letter sizes on the banner itself. Dashed example text in the preview is not printed, and every optional line can be switched off, so a shorter banner just means turning lines off.
- One message. Pick the single thing a reader must know and put it first.
- Few words. A headline of two to four words and one or two small lines is plenty.
- Strong contrast. White on blue, white on red and black on yellow all stand out at a distance.
- Big enough letters for the distance, not just for the wall.
Materials, sizes and shipping
Outdoors, the material matters. Solid 13 oz vinyl is one solid sheet. Vinyl mesh has small open holes that let wind pass through, which suits a chain link fence or an open rail at a field. Both print on one side and have hemmed edges and brass grommets. Order early for a short season, since shipping time comes before hang time.
Wide banners come in 4 x 2, 6 x 2, 6 x 3, 8 x 3 and 8 x 4 ft. Upright 2 x 4 and 3 x 6 ft are offered on pages that have them, and the long fence lengths are on the Mesh Fence Banners page. Common questions
What should I put on a banner?
Put one message first, then the details a reader needs in order: what it is, when, where and how to reach you. Keep it to a headline of two to four words and one or two small lines. Our text banners give you up to three lines, and every optional line can be switched off, so a short banner is easy to make.
How do I pick colors for a banner?
Start with contrast. Text banners come in six color pairs: white on red, black on white, white on blue, black on yellow, white on black and white on green. High-contrast pairs such as black on yellow and white on blue stand out at a distance. The live preview shows the exact colors, so you can compare before you order.
What size banner should I order?
